Ingredients
- 1.5 cups uncooked short-grain rice
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 nori seaweed sheet
- 1 can (7 oz) Spam
- 2 tsp vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sake
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp potato starch (Katakuriko)
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Cook the rice according to your rice cooker instructions, then mix in toasted sesame seeds.
- Cut the nori into six strips and slice the Spam into six pieces.
- In a frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat and brown the Spam slices on both sides.
- Create a sauce by combining soy sauce, sake, rice vinegar, sugar, potato starch, and water in the pan until thickened; coat the Spam slices in this mixture.
- Assemble by pressing cooked rice into a lined tin, adding a slice of Spam on top, wrapping with nori, and tucking ends underneath.
